SiG@Waterloo Spring 2010 Report

In case you were wondering what SiG@Waterloo has been up to lately, please download our SiG@Waterloo Spring 2010 Report (.pdf 5.6MBs) that highlights our progress and accomplishments this past year.

We have made significant progress in many of our focus areas, including the Masters-level program in Social Innovation which we hope to launch in early 2011; the recent UW Senate approval of the Waterloo Institute for Complexity & Innovation; projects and activities emerging from the Watershed Initiatives, an outcome of the Scenario Thinking project convened in April 2009 and facilitated by Adam Kahane, who also delivered the Waterloo Lecture on Social Innovation at CIGI in January 2010; and enhanced our online presence, launching a re-designed website, www.sig.uwaterloo.ca, that showcases and highlights our key priority areas and is helping to grow our online relationships. This spring, we are also pleased to have invited five of Canada's leading thinkers in social innovation to speak as part of our "Innovators in Action" Speaker Series.

We are also in the process of adding an additional faculty member to our research team, who continue to work alongside our McConnell graduate student fellows, to research and publish papers and case studies on social innovation. Other highlights for the coming year include participation in a national summit on June 2nd to discuss the role of knowledge in society, as well as the inaugural meeting of SiG@Waterloo's Associate Faculty and Practitioners.

We want to express our thanks to the J.W. McConnell Family Foundation, our SiG national partners, and the University of Waterloo for their continuing support, allowing us the opportunities to be successful in achieving the goals of SiG@Waterloo.
